Ɂiy Shenchu forest
The Ɂiy shenchu forest is an old growth forest situated between two clear cuts on the Sunshine Coast, around Trout Lake, near Halfmoon Bay. The forest has large Western red cedars and Douglas fir. Some of the cedars were culturally modified by shíshálh Nation people who use strips of bark for making baskets, weaving and other items. While logging has recently been deferred, it still needs protection status. Elphinstone Logging Focus and other advocates are arguing for the unique features of this land and the need to protect it. The Branching Songs Ensemble is planning a land-based intervention in the forest to heal the trees from the marks left by logging companies.
